The Fragile Key Series
The Last Drop
2024, acrylic on maple panel, 40 × 58 in
The Last Drop brings together a gathering of migratory and resident birds around a shrinking pool. Each responds to the world as it is now, shaped by the quiet force of shifting baselines — how generations adapt to diminished abundance without knowing what has been lost.
A distant prison silhouette adds a subtle tension between resilience and constraint, hinting at the visible and invisible systems that frame both ecological and human futures. In this narrowing habitat, competition, interdependence, and endurance meet in a single charged moment.
Grounded in observation, the painting looks beyond the scene itself. It reflects on what happens when landscapes — and cultures — forget their own histories, and on the resilience required to survive within an ever-shrinking world.
The series begins with Echo in the Grain.
