The Fragile Key Series
Enemy of My Enemy
2024, Acrylic on maple panel, 44 × 36 in.
Enemy of My Enemy is based on an encounter observed in the redwoods near the artist’s home by her husband, an ornithologist: two chipmunks raiding chicks from a Pacific wren nest while the parents watched, unable to intervene. By placing a screech owl—the chipmunk’s natural predator—within the composition, Bozic introduces a layered tension that reframes the scene through the lens of ecological interdependence.
Rather than presenting a simple narrative of victim and aggressor, Enemy of My Enemy foregrounds the complexity of survival strategies and shifting relationships within an ecosystem. The work reflects on how these intricate, often overlooked interactions mirror broader emotional and existential patterns in human life, inviting viewers to consider the fragile and continual negotiations that sustain all living systems.
The series begins with Echo in the Grain.
