Wild

24” x 24”, acrylic on maple panel, 2019

Wild examines humanity’s profound influence on the natural world, drawing inspiration from the exotic flowers found in suburban gardens near Bozic’s home in Marin, California. For centuries, humans have introduced non-native species, crossbred flora and fauna, and domesticated plants and animals into hybrids—further fragmenting already delicate ecological relationships. In this work, Bozic imagines entirely new organisms emerging from her brush: fauna morphed into flowers, inhabiting a surreal world where each is as strange and wondrous as the next. These transmuted species serve as metaphors for our imaginative capacity to alter evolutionary pathways and the unforeseen consequences of such interventions. Ultimately, their future—and ours—can only be understood through their interconnectedness within the greater web of life.
