Trouble in Paradise, 33” x 23” (including frame), acrylic on maple wood panel, 2022

“This painting is inspired by Martin Johnson Heade's tropical paintings featuring hummingbirds. At first glance, it seems like an idyllic scene set in the beautiful Florida Everglades, but the closer you look you’ll discover many introduced invasive species displacing native species against a looming storm.”

A special thank you to my beautiful friend Alicia McDole for sharing her Florida flower arrangements with me. I referenced one of her arrangements for the background of this painting. You can discover more of her gorgeous floral arrangements on Instagram @aliciamcdole.

Thank you to wildlife biologist, photographer, and alligator wrangler Chris Gillette, who gave me permission to reference his cool Burmese python snake photo.
