Red X FB Artist in Residence project - 2019

I decided to bring something close out of the dark, so I chose to paint/airbrush local Ctenophores (comb jellies) that are found in the deep ocean just past the Farallon Islands. I included Modeeria, Lampocteis, plus several sea gooseberries. I also included a new species scientists just discovered & nicknamed ‘Red X’.

Special thanks to Biologists Wyatt Patry and Steven Haddock from the Monterey Bay Aquarium for all their crucial help! Also my friends Rebecca Johnson and Rich Mooi from The CA Academy of Sciences for their wisdom & advice. Special thanks to my friends Isabella Kirkland and Jane Kim. Last but not least, thanks to Kristin Farr for encouraging me to paint my first mural.

Work in Progress - airbrushing the body of the Red X ctenophore.
