Curiosity

2019, acrylic on maple panel, 25 × 25 in.

Guided by Instincts of Care and Protection

Set beneath the California redwood canopy, Curiosity celebrates the forest’s biodiversity and the universal instincts of protection and survival. Painted during a long, rain-soaked winter, the work depicts California Quail guiding their chick across a forest floor alive with moss, fungi, and bay laurel. Enlarged mushrooms and glimpses of maple grain lend the scene a dreamlike quality, blurring natural observation with emotional metaphor.
