Curiosity

25” x 25” acrylic on maple panel, 2019

Guided by Instincts of Care and Protection

Set beneath the California redwood canopy, Curiosity celebrates the forest’s biodiversity and the universal instincts of protection and survival. Painted during a long, rain-soaked winter, it depicts California Quail guiding their chick across a forest floor alive with moss, fungi, and bay laurel. Enlarged mushrooms and glimpses of maple grain lend the work a dreamlike quality, blurring natural observation with emotional metaphor.
